The Tehsil Social Welfare Office in Dangiwachi area of Sopore was sealed on Monday after its employees were found absent. The authorities have also sought an explanation from the absent employees, who have been attached to the office of Tehsildar Dangiwacha.
Source said that Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore SA Raina conducted a surprise visit of the office on Monday. During the visit, all the employees were found absent.
The official said that the ADC has appointed Tehsildar Dangiwacha as an enquiry officer to investigate the matter and submit his report within two days.
The sealing of the office comes as a major embarrassment for the Social Welfare Department, which is responsible for implementing several welfare schemes for the poor and needy in Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident has also raised questions about the accountability of government officials, who are often found absent from their duties.
