Jammu: Three people killed in road accident

Three people, including two labourers, were killed on Friday when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in Kishtwar district of Jammu region.

The vehicle, a Camper (JK17-6327), was carrying three people when it was moving near the under construction Kiru Hydro-electric project. The driver lost control of the vehicle, and it rolled down into the gorge. All three occupants of the vehicle died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Badal Kumar (19), driver of the vehicle, son of Ranjeet Singh of Bida Lower Bidda; Ashfaq Hussain (25) son of Mohammad Ashraf Malik; and Chanjgu Ram (38) son of C. Singh of Chicgnana Nagseni.

Local reports suggest that the vehicle belonged to a construction company, but official confirmation was awaited.

SHO Kishtwar Abid Bukhari confirmed the death of the three people in the accident and said that a case has been registered and investigations taken up.

The accident comes at a time when road safety is a major concern in Jammu and Kashmir. In the past few months, there have been several fatal road accidents in the region.

The authorities have urged drivers to be careful and to follow traffic rules. They have also urged the public to report any violations of traffic rules.
