Samba Police took a significant step towards improving public safety by arresting two key members of the Gataru gang, including its leader, Sumit Jandyal (alias Gataru). Both Jandyal and his brother, Sourav Gupta, were booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their alleged involvement in organized crime that threatened public order.
The Gataru gang, led by Jandyal, has been linked to various criminal activities in Samba and Jammu districts, including attempted murder, robbery, extortion, and land grabbing. Their repeated offenses prompted the District Magistrate of Samba to issue detention orders based on evidence compiled by the Samba SSP. These orders were executed by the SHO of Vijaypur Police Station, resulting in the imprisonment of both Jandyal and Gupta at the District Jail Kathua.
