Jammu, July 25: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Jammu and Kashmir today announced the arrest of a Patwari from Patwar Halqa Dansal, Jammu, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
According to an ACB spokesman, a complaint was filed alleging that Chuni Lal, the Patwari of Patwar Halqa Dansal, demanded an illegal gratification from the complainant for providing a demarcation report.
The accused initially demanded Rs 1,00,000 for the report. After negotiation, he agreed to accept Rs 75,000 and asked for a first installment of Rs 25,000. However, the complainant could only arrange Rs 20,000. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB for legal action.
Following a discreet verification that corroborated the bribe demand, a case was registered under FIR No. 15/2025 U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at Police Station ACB Jammu.
During the investigation, a trap team was formed. The team successfully caught Chuni Lal red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the Rs 20,000 bribe from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was immediately arrested, and the bribe money was recovered from him.
Furthermore, searches were conducted at the accused’s office and his in-laws’ house. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
