Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary visited Rajouri to assess the security situation and hospital preparedness following recent Pakistani shelling. He emphasized India’s resilience against repeated Pakistani attacks, stating, “Our people are brave… Pakistan will get a befitting reply.” He also appealed for communal harmony.
The visit occurred amidst heightened tensions, with Pakistani shelling damaging civilian homes in a border town, leading to the closure of educational institutions in Udhampur. The Border Security Force (BSF) reported thwarting a major infiltration attempt in the Samba sector, neutralizing seven terrorists who tried to enter under cover fire from Pakistan Rangers. This incident followed explosions in Jammu and Jaisalmer, triggering air-raid sirens and evacuations.
These events are linked to India’s “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, where Indian forces conducted missile strikes on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, targeting terrorist infrastructure of groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. This operation was in response to an April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in 26 civilian deaths.
