Union Home Minister Amit Shah is currently on a two-day visit to the Jammu region. Today, Friday, he is in Poonch district, where he will engage with families affected by cross-border firing and meet with Border Security Force (BSF) troops.
Shah traveled from Jammu to Poonch this morning, accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. His itinerary includes addressing civilians impacted by Pakistani shelling at Dak Bungalow in Poonch, followed by an interaction with BSF jawans at the Khanetar-based unit headquarters.
Official sources indicate that the Home Minister will also visit damaged religious sites, including the Singh Sabha Gurdwara, and convene a meeting with officers to assess the extent of damage in the severely affected district.
This visit marks Shah’s first to the Union Territory since “Operation Sindoor.” Upon his arrival on Thursday evening, he chaired a security review meeting at the Raj Bhawan with senior officials from the Army, paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and the administration.
In a post on X, Shah stated that he had “chaired a review meeting for the Amarnath pilgrimage and evaluated the security arrangements and preparedness meant for the pilgrims.” He further instructed for “utmost vigilance” to ensure the “seamless completion of the sacred journey,” emphasizing that “The Central government and J&K administration will leave no stone unturned to facilitate the pilgrims with all necessary facilities.”
Additionally, Shah is anticipated to distribute appointment letters to the next of kin of civilians who lost their lives in the shelling in Poonch.
