“Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the April 22nd Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian government convened an all-party meeting on Thursday to brief political leaders on ‘Operation Sindoor’ and its aftermath. This marked the second such meeting in two weeks.
Union ministers Rajnath Singh (who chaired the meeting), Amit Shah, S Jaishankar, J P Nadda, and Nirmala Sitharaman represented the government. Key opposition figures present included Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge (Congress), Sandip Bandyopadhyay (Trinamool Congress), T R Baalu (DMK), Ram Gopal Yadav (Samajwadi Party), Sanjay Singh (AAP), Sanjay Raut (Shiv Sena (UBT)), Supriya Sule (NCP (SP)), Sasmit Patra (BJD), John Brittas (CPI(M)), Sanjay Jha (JD(U)), Chirag Paswan (LJP (Ram Vilas)), and Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM).
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated the meeting’s purpose was to provide a comprehensive briefing on ‘Operation Sindoor,’ India’s retaliatory missile strikes carried out on Wednesday. These strikes targeted nine terror locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including Jaish-e-Mohammad’s Bahawalpur stronghold and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Muridke base, in response to the Pahalgam attack which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. The government had previously held an all-party meeting on April 24th to address the Pahalgam attack.”
