The Ministry of Defence has issued an advisory to all media channels, digital platforms, and individuals, strongly urging them to avoid live or real-time reporting of ongoing defence operations and the movement of security forces.
In a post on X, the Ministry emphasized significant national security concerns and the potential threat to lives that such reporting can create.
The advisory referenced past critical events, including the Kargil War, the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, and the Kandahar hijacking, to illustrate how early or unmanaged media coverage can negatively affect the success of operations.
The Ministry’s X post stated:
“All media channels, digital platforms and individuals are advised to refrain from live coverage or real-time reporting of defence operations and movement of security forces. Disclosure of such sensitive or source-based information may jeopardize operational effectiveness and endanger lives. Past incidents like the #KargilWar, 26/11 attacks, and the #Kandahar hijacking underscore the risks of premature reporting.
“In accordance with clause 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, only authorized periodic updates from designated officials are permitted during counter-terrorism operations. All stakeholders are urged to demonstrate vigilance, sensitivity, and responsibility in their reporting, maintaining the highest standards in service to the nation.”
