On Monday, former United States President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Israel and Iran had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire,” set to begin in approximately six hours.
Trump stated that the agreement would lead to a significant de-escalation of hostilities. “CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” he wrote.
According to Trump, Iran would initiate the ceasefire, followed by Israel. He anticipated a full cessation of hostilities within 24 hours, urging both nations to remain “peaceful and respectful” during the overlapping ceasefire periods. He elaborated, “Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL.”
Trump congratulated both countries for their “Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence” in ending “THE 12 DAY WAR,” which he suggested could have otherwise lasted for years and devastated the Middle East. He concluded his announcement with blessings for Israel, Iran, the Middle East, the United States, and the world.
The conflict began on June 13 with Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion,” a large-scale airstrike on Iranian military and nuclear sites. Iran retaliated with “Operation True Promise 3,” a drone and missile campaign targeting Israeli fighter jet fuel production facilities and energy supply centers. Tensions further escalated when the U.S. conducted “Operation Midnight Hammer” with precision airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, prompting Iran to launch missiles at U.S. military installations in Qatar and Iraq, including Al Udeid Air Base.
