In a significant breakthrough, Jammu Police South Zone has successfully resolved six theft cases, including two snatching incidents and one case involving the theft of vital BSNL telecom infrastructure. Over the past two and a half months, the diligent efforts of Police Station Gandhi Nagar and Police Post Digiana have led to the arrest of 13 accused individuals, including one minor, and the recovery of stolen property valued at over ₹27 lakh.
Chain Snatching, Motorcycle, and Construction Material Thefts Solved
Police Station Gandhi Nagar received several complaints regarding chain snatching in the Shastri Nagar and Gandhi Nagar areas, along with a motorcycle theft and the theft of construction materials. The following First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered:
- FIR No. 103/2025 U/S 304 BNS – Chain Snatching
- FIR No. 126/2025 U/S 304 BNS – Chain Snatching
- FIR No. 142/2025 U/S 303(2) BNS – Motorcycle Theft
- FIR No. 143/2025 U/S 303(2) BNS – Theft of Construction Material
A special team was quickly formed, utilizing CCTV footage and Smart City surveillance to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Arrests and Recoveries:
- Pardeep Singh and Virinder Singh were arrested in connection with the chain snatching cases (FIRs 103/2025 & 126/2025). Police recovered two gold chains weighing approximately 50 grams.
- Mohd. Sadiq was apprehended for the motorcycle theft (FIR 142/2025), and the stolen motorcycle (JK02CE-7803) was recovered.
- Fazal Hussain and Chandan Kumar were arrested for the theft of construction material (FIR 143/2025). Stolen construction items and a suspected stolen scooty (JK02DC-5835) were recovered.
BSNL Infrastructure Theft: Five Women Arrested
In a separate case, FIR No. 145/2025 U/S 303(2) BNS was registered concerning the theft of BSNL telecom infrastructure near the DPL Jammu back gate. Swift action by the police led to the apprehension of five women, all residents of Pati Road, Barnala, Punjab:
- Banti W/O Lutera
- Sapni W/O Ashok
- Babli W/O Garibdas
- Rajani W/O Sanjay
- Salochana W/O Jarnail Singh
Approximately 8–10 kg of stolen copper wire was recovered, with further recoveries expected as the investigation progresses.
High-Value House Theft: Jewellery Worth ₹21 Lakh Recovered
Police Post Digiana achieved a major success by solving a high-profile house theft case within days of its reporting. On May 9, 2025, Gurjeet Kour of Preet Nagar, Jammu, reported the theft of gold and diamond jewelry from her home during the night of May 7th/8th.
FIR No. 113/2025 U/S 331(2), 331(4), and 305 BNS was registered at PS Gandhi Nagar. A dedicated team, utilizing technical surveillance and human intelligence, cracked the case.
Accused Arrested:
- Safar Ansari (23) R/O Kishanganj, Bihar, A/P Gangyal
- Ibrahim (25) R/O Behraich, U.P., A/P KC Colony, Gangyal
- One minor was also apprehended.

The investigation into this case is ongoing, and further recoveries are not ruled out.
