Police and security forces arrested two terrorist associates of the proscribed outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Sopore area of Baramulla district on Friday.
The two associates, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat and Tanveer Ahmad Lone, were arrested at a joint checkpoint established by the police and Army’s 52 RR at Sher Colony Tarzoo.
The police said that the two men were intercepted after they showed suspicious behavior on seeing the joint party. They were subsequently apprehended tactfully.
During a search, two grenades and eight pistol rounds were recovered from their possession.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of law and further investigation is underway.
The arrests are a major success for the security forces in their ongoing fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. They send a clear message that the forces will not allow anyone to disturb the peace and tranquility of the region.
The police have urged the people to come forward with any information about the activities of terrorists and their associates. They said that such information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
