The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) announced on Monday the reopening of the Leh-Manali National Highway (NH-3), re-establishing road connectivity between Ladakh and the rest of India through Manali.
The 475-kilometer highway, critical for the transit of armed forces and essential goods to forward areas in Ladakh, has been made operational again after its closure in late November 2024, according to an official BRO statement.
Snow clearance teams from BRO’s Project Himank in Ladakh and Project Deepak in Himachal Pradesh worked to clear significant snow accumulations, reaching up to 15 feet high in certain areas of high-altitude passes such as Tanglang La (at an elevation of 17,480 feet), Lachung La (16,616 feet), Nakee La (15,547 feet), and Baralacha La (16,340 feet).
The reopening of NH-3 is expected to serve as a crucial lifeline for both the armed forces and the local population, facilitating the continuous movement of vital supplies and personnel.
