Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed accusations of overstepping his authority, asserting that his actions are fully compliant with the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act. “I want to be absolutely clear: the Parliament passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act in 2019, and I have acted entirely within its defined parameters,” Sinha stated in a social media video.
His comments follow a dispute with the Omar Abdullah-led government regarding the transfer of 48 Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officers. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had written to the Union Home Minister, claiming the transfer order issued by the LG lacked “legal backing” and contravened the Reorganization Act.
Sinha countered, reaffirming his adherence to constitutional boundaries. “I know my jurisdiction and I will never violate it,” he emphasized, indicating that he would only operate within his mandated powers.
