The Jammu and Kashmir Forest Minister, Javad Ahmad Rana, announced that the mapping and demarcation of wetlands, as mandated by the Supreme Court, is in progress and expected to conclude by the end of March. This initiative utilizes remote sensing data and ground verification in collaboration with revenue and wildlife departments, focusing on wetlands larger than 2.25 hectares.
To enhance wetland protection, district wetland management units, led by the respective deputy commissioners, were established in December.
- Regarding the environmental impact assessment of a proposed road for the Amarnath Yatra, the minister stated that the existing tracks to the cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas have been developed in accordance with a 2012 Supreme Court order.
