During an assembly debate on the Lieutenant Governor’s address, National Conference MLA Riyaz Ahmed Khan urgently requested Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s assistance in securing the release and repatriation of two Kashmiri youths reportedly detained in Myanmar.
Khan, representing the Shangus-Anantnag East constituency, brought the matter to the assembly’s attention through a point of order, emphasizing the “urgent matter of the detention of two Kashmiri youths” by the Myanmar Coast Guard. He stated that he had received numerous calls from concerned parents, Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan and Aijaz Ahmed Khan of Gopalpura, who informed him that their sons had been sent to Thailand by a private recruitment company and subsequently relocated.
“They were detained by the (Myanmar) coast guard, along with other Indians, during a protest near the Myanmar border,” Khan explained to the assembly.
He further clarified that he had formally notified the government about the situation. “Two boys — Adnan Khan and Naveed Khan from Gopalpura Shangus — are currently with the Myanmar Coast Guard. They need to be brought back,” he reiterated.
“I urge the chief minister to intervene in this matter. I have already raised the issue,” Khan concluded, stressing the urgency of the situation.
