Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the Legislative Assembly that the government is taking steps to address the shortage of accommodation for visitors from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in Delhi and Chandigarh, following the transfer of parts of J&K House in Chanakyapuri to the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Delhi Initiatives:
- New Land Acquisition: To compensate for the reduced capacity at J&K House, Chanakyapuri, the government has acquired a 3,179.58 sqm plot in Dwarka, New Delhi, on a perpetual lease from the Delhi Development Authority.
- JK Bhawan Complex: A new JK Bhawan complex will be constructed on this plot (Plot No. 3, Sector-19, Phase-1, Dwarka), chosen for its accessibility and proximity to other state bhawans.
- Exploring 5 Prithviraj Road: The government is also exploring the possibility of creating additional accommodation at 5 Prithviraj Road.
- Retrieval of Rajaji Marg Property: The government successfully retrieved a property at Kashmir House, Rajaji Marg, New Delhi, which had been under unauthorized occupation. The property, measuring one kanal and 11.2 marlas, is now back in the possession of the Resident Commission, J&K, after the eviction of unauthorized occupants under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1971.
Chandigarh Initiatives:
- The J&K owned property in Sector-17, Chandigarh will be modified after obtaining the needed permissions.
- Arrangements will be made to provide proper accommodation for patients traveling to Chandigarh for medical treatment.
General Assurances:
- The new buildings will reflect J&K’s architectural heritage, offer traditional J&K cuisine, and prioritize employment for locals.
- Asset Distribution: The Chief Minister clarified that the asset allocation between J&K and Ladakh was conducted based on the recommendations of an Advisory Committee formed under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, and a committee formed under Government Order No. 1011-GAD of 2019 dated 12.09.2019. The asset distribution was done by the apportionment of assets & liabilities committee constituted by the Central Government.
