The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is intensifying its investigation into the Pahalgam attack, as reported by NDTV. As part of this effort, the NIA is interrogating two terrorists, Muahtaq and Nisar, who have been imprisoned in Jammu since April 2023.
Both individuals are under scrutiny for their potential involvement in the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians and left many others injured. Their imprisonment stems from their alleged roles in a previous terror attack on civilians in the Rajouri district, followed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in which seven people, including two children, were killed and numerous others were injured.
The NIA formally assumed control of the Pahalgam terror attack investigation on April 27, registering a case in Jammu. Since then, multiple NIA teams have been actively engaged in gathering evidence and questioning eyewitnesses, including relatives of the victims, with the aim of uncovering the full extent of the terror conspiracy. NIA teams have reportedly taken statements from family members of the victims located in Maharashtra, Odisha, and West Bengal, among other states.
Preliminary findings of the investigation suggest that the Pahalgam attack may have involved between five and seven terrorists. Additionally, investigators believe that the attackers received assistance from at least two local militants who had undergone training in Pakistan.
