A woman was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday for impersonating a police officer and cheating a job-seeker.
The woman, identified as Bisma Yousuf Sheikh, was arrested after a complaint was filed by Wasif Hassan, a resident of Kunzer. Hassan said that he met the woman on a bus and she introduced herself as Ashia, a sub-inspector posted at the Kunzer Police Station. She promised to help him get a job as a constable in the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Hassan gave the woman Rs 10,000, but she later contacted him again and asked for more money to expedite the process. Hassan became suspicious and filed a complaint with the police.
The police investigation revealed that the woman was not a police officer and had no authority to help Hassan get a job. She was arrested and charged with impersonation and fraud.
The police have warned people not to fall prey to such fraudsters and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
