On Sunday, President Donald Trump expressed optimism regarding ongoing nuclear talks with Iran, suggesting a potential announcement within the next 48 hours. His tone was more positive than that of the Omani mediator, who on Friday described the fifth round of negotiations in Rome as having made “some but not conclusive” progress.
Speaking to reporters in northern New Jersey, Trump stated, “We’ve had some very, very good talks with Iran.” He added, “I don’t know if I’ll be telling you anything good or bad over the next two days, but I have a feeling I might be telling you something good.”
The President highlighted “real progress, serious progress” made during Saturday and Sunday’s discussions. “Let’s see what happens, but I think we could have some good news on the Iran front,” Trump remarked.
Representing the U.S. at the talks, held at the Omani Embassy in Rome, were Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff and State Department policy planning director Michael Anton. The negotiations center on curbing Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of certain U.S. economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
