Udhampur Police Bust Major Drug Trafficking: 300 Kg Poppy Straw Seized

In a significant victory against drug trafficking, the Udhampur Police seized a massive haul of 320 kilograms of poppy straw. The operation unfolded during a routine checkpoint on the National Highway at Jakhani.

A police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Udhampur Police Station intercepted a mini truck (registration number PB 10CR 6750) traveling from Srinagar towards Udhampur. Two individuals, Dinesh Kumar (son of Bishan) and Rajinder Sharma (son of Om Parkash), both residents of Giraward, Haryana, were onboard the vehicle.

A thorough search of the truck revealed a hidden cache of 320 kilograms of poppy straw, a narcotic substance. The police promptly apprehended both suspects and confiscated the vehicle used in the smuggling attempt.

An FIR (First Information Report) has been registered at the Udhampur Police Station under relevant legal provisions. The investigation into this case is currently ongoing.
