It’s been a tense few days along the Line of Control. For the fifth night in a row, Pakistani troops engaged in unprovoked firing, and last night they extended this to the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district, according to an official.
This latest incident follows a series of ceasefire violations that began after the terror attack in Pahalgam last week, adding to the already heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.
A defence spokesperson stated that “During the night of April 28-29, the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small arms firing across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara and Baramulla districts, as well as the Akhnoor sector.”
The Indian Army responded to this provocation with a measured and effective counter-action, the spokesperson added. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported at this time.
The pattern of violations shows an expansion from the initial small arms fire in the Kupwara and Baramulla districts of north Kashmir to include the Poonch sector and now Akhnoor.
