The director general of police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh, said that there has been a visible change on the ground after the abrogation of Article 370. He said that there are hardly any law and order incidents in the region, and tourists are visiting places that they would not have dreamed of visiting before. He also said that the annual Amarnath Yatra is going on smoothly and the flow of tourists is at an all-time high.
Singh appealed to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to stay away from drugs, which he said is one of the conspiracies of Pakistan. He said that over 2,000 cases have been registered in the drug menace and over 3,000 people have been arrested. He urged the youth to involve themselves in career-building activities and sports instead.
The DGP also said that intense investigations are underway into the disappearance of Army soldier Javaid Ahmad Wani, who went missing after leaving for Chawalgam village on Saturday evening. His car was found at Paranhal village, about 9 km from his home, with his slippers and some bloodstains inside. His mother has released a video message pleading for his safe return home.
Singh said that very few foreign terrorists are active in south Kashmir and they are being tracked down. He added that the people of Kashmir have rejected the false narrative that was being run from across the border to fuel terrorism.
