To bolster efforts in mitigating human-wildlife conflict, Minister Javed Ahmad Rana of Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs today inaugurated a fleet of 10 specialized Wildlife Rescue Vehicles.
This significant addition to the Union Territory’s resources will enhance the mobility and responsiveness of established Wildlife Control Rooms. The vehicles are strategically intended to ensure a quicker and more effective response to incidents of human-wildlife conflict, particularly in regions identified as vulnerable and high-risk.
During the flag-off ceremony, Minister Rana underscored the pressing need to address the escalating challenges posed by wildlife conflict, which present considerable social, economic, and safety concerns. He directed the department to prioritize the protection of human life and property while upholding ecological balance. He further noted that comprehensive measures are underway to educate local communities about animal behavior and proactive steps they can take to minimize human-animal conflict.
“This new fleet of Wildlife Rescue Vehicles is a crucial step towards significantly reducing response times and strengthening the department’s capacity to effectively manage conflict situations, ultimately safeguarding both human communities and wildlife,” asserted Minister Rana.
Emphasizing the critical need for harmonious coexistence, Rana stated, “We must discover sustainable solutions that ensure the protection of both human lives and the survival of wildlife. Striking a balance between conservation and development is paramount.”
Minister Rana also urged the wildlife department to explore and adopt successful strategies for managing human-wildlife conflict implemented in other parts of the nation.
Finally, he commended the forest department for their effective management of human-wildlife interactions, acknowledging the challenges faced by personnel on the ground.
