On Saturday, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi declared that the surgical strikes conducted during Operation Sindoor sent an unequivocal message to Pakistan: supporters of terrorism will not be spared. Speaking at the Kargil War Memorial on Vijay Diwas, General Dwivedi asserted that Operation Sindoor was both a direct message to Pakistan and a decisive response to the “deep wound” inflicted by the Pahalgam terror attack.
General Dwivedi emphasized that India’s stern response to its adversary has become the “new normal.” He highlighted that with the nation’s faith and the government’s full support, the Indian Army delivered a befitting surgical response. He reiterated that any entity challenging India’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty, or harming its people, will face a decisive reply.
During Operation Sindoor, the army chief stated, nine high-value terrorist targets in Pakistan were eliminated with zero collateral damage. He asserted that India achieved a “decisive victory” by effectively targeting terrorist infrastructure and thwarting Pakistan’s aggressive maneuvers.
General Dwivedi criticized Pakistan for resorting to “cowardice” despite India’s efforts for peace, citing Pakistan’s actions on May 8 and 9. He commended the Indian Army’s air defense, which he described as an “impregnable wall” against missiles and drones.
Looking ahead, General Dwivedi outlined significant advancements in the Indian Army’s capabilities. He announced the establishment of “Rudra, all of brigade,” a new formation approved just the day before. This brigade will integrate infantry, mechanized infantry, armored units, artillery, special forces, and unmanned aerial units to provide comprehensive logistics and combat support.
He also revealed the formation of Bhairav Light Commando Unit, a special strike force designed to “surprise the enemy at the border.” Furthermore, he noted that “every infantry battalion now has a drone platoon.” In artillery, the Shaktiban regiment has been established, equipped with drones, counter-drones, and loiter munitions, ensuring that “every regiment will have a composite battery equipped with these things.” General Dwivedi affirmed that the army’s capabilities will “increase manifold” as it integrates indigenous missiles into its air defense systems.
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence at the previous year’s silver jubilee celebrations, General Dwivedi remarked that the attendance of top leaders signifies that Vijay Diwas is not merely an army event but a “festival for the entire nation.” He concluded by paying homage to the sacrifices of the heroes who laid down their lives, ensuring the nation’s safety and enabling its citizens to live in peace and dignity.
